Afghan contractors working for NATO's troops fear retaliation, AFGHANISTAN, AF - 09 Jun 2021
Afghan contractors, working for Italian soldiers of NATO's Resolute Support Mission (RSP), protested Wednesday to demand security after the withdrawal of Italian soldiers from Camp Arena, outside the Independent Human Rights Comission, in Herat. Thousands of Afghans have worked as interpreters, security guards and contractual workers for the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan over the years. Hundreds of these employees have held protests in different parts of the country demanding special visas to be evacuated from the country, citing the risk of being attacked. An overnight militant attack has killed at least 10 Afghan civilians who worked for a land mine clearance project in the volatile northern province of Baghlan, an official said on Wednesday.
